Nueva Gerona, the capital of Isla de la Juventud special municipality and province in Cuba, was founded in 1830 by Francisco Dionisio Vives, boasting a population of 59,049 as of 2012. Nestled between the Sierra de Caballos and Sierra de Casas mountains, it enjoys proximity to the Río Las Casas, offering a navigable waterway to the Caribbean Sea. The city's bustling commercial and cultural hub, Calle Real Street (also known as Calle 39 Street), houses a diverse range of industries, from sugar mills to cigar factories, alongside various manufacturing and commercial enterprises.
