Inhambane, Innamban

Inhambane, a captivating town 470 km northeast of Maputo, is steeped in history. One of the oldest settlements on Mozambique's eastern coast, its trade connections date back to the 11th century.  Aptly named "Land of Good People" by Vasco da Gama, Inhambane offers a relaxed atmosphere and a chance to connect with the friendly locals.

Beach lovers will find paradise at Praia do Tofo, a beautiful stretch of coastline known for its excellent surfing and laid-back vibes.  Adventure awaits at the Parque Nacional de Bazaruto, Africa's largest marine park encompassing the Bazaruto and Benguerra islands. Divers can explore a kaleidoscope of underwater life at the Two Mile Reef, teeming with colorful corals, starfish, and diverse reef fish.

Engage with marine experts and learn about manta rays, whale sharks, and conservation efforts at the Marine Megafauna Foundation.  For a historical and cultural immersion, explore the old city quarter and climb the spire of the 170-year-old Catedral da Nossa Senhora da Conceicao for breathtaking views.

Inhambane offers a taste of local life at the Inhambane Market, a vibrant hub where you can find souvenirs and experience the energy of the chapas (local minibuses) coming and going.  For a vibrant beachfront setting with live music, a restaurant, and a swimming pool, unwind at Neptune's Lodge & Beach Bar. Alternatively, soak up the local atmosphere and enjoy a delicious meal with attentive service at Villa Palmeira Barra.
