Luanda

Luanda, the vibrant capital of Angola, sits on the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Divided into two main districts, Baixa de Luanda and Cidade Alta, the city boasts the distinction of being the world's most populous Portuguese-speaking capital and the largest Lusophone city outside of Brazil.

Founded in 1576 by Portuguese explorer Paulo Dias de Novais, Luanda played a significant role in the transatlantic slave trade. Today, Luanda is a thriving economic hub, with a focus on oil, manufacturing, and various industries.  The city has undergone substantial reconstruction and development in recent years, attracting a growing Portuguese immigrant population.  However, Luanda also holds the title of one of the most expensive cities globally for expatriates.
