Izmayil, Izmail

Izmail, a city and municipality in southwestern Ukraine, rests along the Danube River.  This port city is the largest in the Ukrainian Danube Delta and serves as the administrative center of Izmail Raion.  Beyond its designation as a major port, Izmail holds historical significance.  Russian historiography recognizes Izmail for the 18th-century storming of the Ottoman fortress by Russian general Alexander Suvorov.

Izmail offers various attractions for visitors.  History buffs can delve into the past at the Diorama Sturm Fortress of Izmail, a museum depicting the historic battle, or the Izmail Historical Museum A.V.
