Senj, Luka Senj

Senj, the oldest town on the upper Adriatic coast founded over 3,000 years ago, boasts a rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture. Located at the southern end of the Kvarner Bay and surrounded by mountains, Senj is dominated by the iconic Nehaj Fortress, built in 1558 and once the seat of the Uskoks. Senj has a fascinating past, reflecting the influence of Illyrian tribes, Romans, Avars, Croats, and Venetians. The Catholic Diocese of Senj was established in 1169.

Explore the impressive Nehaj Fortress, a medieval castle offering panoramic sea views and a testament to Senj's historical significance. For relaxation, head to Lukovo Beach with its clear waters, small stones, and peaceful atmosphere. Hike along the beautiful Premužić trail and enjoy breathtaking views and a cold beer at Planinarski dom Zavizan afterward. Prva Draga Beach is another popular option for swimming and relaxation. Take a pleasant 15-20 minute walk from the village to see the Suncanik Sculpture along the sea. History buffs can also visit Vratnik Fortress, a wonderful monument near the old main road to Senj or Velebit mountain.

The town center offers a variety of stores, drugstores, and souvenir shops selling local specialties. Enjoy coastal and Velebit-inspired cuisine, with the largest grocery store being Konzum located at the entrance to Senj. For nightlife, experience Dalmatian songs, dance, and local specialties at the bars in the center. If you're looking for a late-night scene, head to nearby Crikvenica.
