Plymouth

Plymouth, a vibrant port city steeped in history, rests on Devon's south coast. Located between the rivers Plym and Tamar, it's roughly 36 miles southwest of Exeter and 193 miles southwest of London. Plymouth's rich journey stretches back to the Bronze Age, evolving from a trading post to a thriving market town and finally being formally named Plymouth in 1439. The city played a pivotal role in shaping English history, including the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588 and the departure of the Pilgrim Fathers for the New World in 1620. The Industrial Revolution further fueled Plymouth's growth as a commercial shipping hub. After absorbing nearby settlements in 1914, Plymouth was awarded city status in 1928.
