Vlissingen, Flushing

Vlissingen, or Flushing, located on the former island of Walcheren, has been an important harbor for centuries due to its strategic location between the Scheldt River and the North Sea. Granted city rights in 1315, it played a significant role during the Dutch Golden Age as a harbor for the Dutch East India Company (VOC). Admiral Michiel de Ruyter was born here. Key attractions include the Maritiem MuZEEum Zeeland, which explores Zeeland’s maritime history, the Boulevard van Vlissingen for scenic seaside strolls, and the unique mega paintings at Panorama Walcheren. Enjoy the sandy Badstrand beach and admire the statue of Admiral Michiel Adriaanszoon de Ruyter. For shopping, visit Boekhandel 't Spui, a specialty bookstore, and Dirkx Mineralen, a shop specializing in minerals and gemstones. Vlissingen's nightlife features live bands at The Wicked Irish Pub, '90s music at the 90’s Night event, and a wine and cocktail experience at À Boire.
