Maassluis, Massluis

Maassluis is a picturesque town in South Holland, covering 10.12 km², of which 1.64 km² is water. Granted city rights in 1811, it was originally founded around 1340 as Maeslandsluys next to a lock in the sea barrier between the North Sea and Rotterdam. A notable landmark is the Garrels Organ, inaugurated in 1732. Attractions include the Nationaal Sleepvaart Museum, which showcases tugboats and maritime history, and Groote Kerk, a church built between 1629 and 1639 known for its impressive Garrels organ. Visitors can explore the well-preserved 17th-century town structure in Historische kern Maassluis, enjoy cultural performances at Theater Koningshof, and take the kids to Indoorpretpark Maassluis, an indoor play park. The Museum Maassluis offers insights into local history.
