Signilskar

Signilskär is one of the westernmost islands in Finland, part of the archipelago of Åland. The island, along with nearby islands, forms part of the municipality of Hammarland. Signilskär has a chapel dating back to the middle ages and is now uninhabited.

Despite the lack of permanent residents, Signilskär attracts visitors for various reasons. Birdwatchers flock to the island in spring and winter. The island’s unique flora, including the fragrant orchid and the wall rue, is another reason for its popularity. The remains of an old windmill can also be found on the island. Signilskär Chapel is a major attraction, especially for those interested in medieval history.
