Sachs Harbor

Sachs Harbour, also known as Ikaahuk, which means "place where one crosses" in the Inuvialuit language, is a tiny hamlet nestled on the southwestern coast of Banks Island in Canada's Northwest Territories. It holds the distinction of being the only permanent settlement on the island and serves as the Inuvialuit Settlement Region's headquarters for Aulavik National Park. The Thomsen River, the northernmost navigable river in Canada, winds its way through this serene park, offering visitors a chance to explore a breathtaking natural landscape. While Sachs Harbour boasts a traditional lifestyle focused on hunting and trapping, the nearby Visitor Reception Centre provides a glimpse into Inuvialuit culture and the wonders of Aulavik National Park.
