Deering

Deering is a city located on a sandy spit on the Seward Peninsula in Alaska, where the Inmachuk River meets the Kotzebue Sound. Roughly 57 miles southwest of Kotzebue, this small community boasts a population of around 182 residents, primarily of Iñupiat descent.

Due to Deering's remote location and small size, nightlife options are limited and tend to be more community-oriented. It's important to note that the sale or importation of alcohol is prohibited within the city limits.

While shopping options are limited to just two stores, Deering offers a unique opportunity to experience a subsistence lifestyle firsthand. The local economy thrives on a mix of cash income and traditional activities like hunting and fishing.
