Three Saints Bay

Three Saints Bay holds a significant place in Alaskan history. This 9-mile inlet on Kodiak Island's southeast side was the landing point for the first Russian settlement in Alaska, Three Saints Harbor. Established in 1784 by Grigory Shelikhov, this settlement served as the initial foothold for Russian exploration and fur trading in the region. Though the main settlement was later relocated to what is now the city of Kodiak, Three Saints Bay itself was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1978, commemorating its role in Alaska's past.
