Jazireh-Ye
Sirri, also known as Sirri Island, lies in the
Persian Gulf, roughly 76 kilometers from Bandar-e Lengeh and 50 kilometers west
of Abu Musa Island. This small island, spanning only 17.33 square kilometers,
reaches a maximum elevation of 33 meters above sea level. The hot desert
climate with high summer humidity makes Sirri Island a unique destination.
While
the island's most significant economic activity revolves around oil and gas
development, including oil fields and an NGL gas factory, it also holds
historical significance. History buffs will be interested in learning about
Operation Praying Mantis, a 1988 military operation that took place near the
island's oil platforms.
Beyond
its industrial significance, Sirri Island offers natural beauty. Visitors can
marvel at the coastal views and marine life, or explore the notable landmark
lighthouse. For a glimpse into local life, explore the traditional markets
selling souvenirs and unique oil-related products. In the evenings, enjoy the
island's tranquility – stargaze or attend occasional community gatherings.
