Abu Khammash
Abu Khammash, also known
as Bukamesh, is a small Berber
village nestled on the Tunisian coast, approximately 25 kilometers from
the Tunisian border. This historic site boasts a rich past, dating back to Punic and Roman times, as
evidenced by archaeological discoveries of graves and tombs made during
construction works. The village is nestled against a reef that encloses a
picturesque fishing harbor, adding to its charm.
While Abu Khammash offers a
glimpse into Tunisia's history, it's not a major shopping or nightlife
destination. The small village atmosphere and limited infrastructure make it
more suited for travelers seeking a tranquil and authentic experience.
