El Hamra Oil Terminal
El Hamra Oil Terminal, situated on the Mediterranean coast west of
Alexandria, plays a vital role in Egypt's oil industry. Established to handle
crude oil production from the western desert, El Hamra represents a significant
portion of the country's oil output.
The terminal boasts a storage capacity of 1.5
million barrels (BBLS) with six floating roof tanks. For efficient operations, it has a main
manifold to control crude oil movement, a loading system with powerful pumping
stations, and metering units for precise monitoring. Additionally, it features fixed roof oily
water tanks, a quality control laboratory, and a workshop compound to maintain
the facilities. Offshore, a Single Buoy
Mooring (SBM) accommodates tankers, and a 30-inch diameter marine loading pipeline
facilitates crude oil transportation.
While El Hamra's primary function is oil
processing, it offers a unique perspective of the Mediterranean coastline. For shopping and nightlife experiences, the nearby city of
Alexandria beckons with its vibrant atmosphere.
