Sidon/Zahrani Terminal
Sidon, also known as
Saida, is a
historic coastal city in Lebanon boasting a remarkable history of over 6,000
years. During the Phoenician
era, Sidon was a renowned center for glass manufacturing and the production
of the prized purple dye, symbolizing royalty and wealth. Over the centuries, Assyrians, Babylonians,
Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Crusaders have all left their mark on the city's
architecture and culture.
While the Zahrani Terminal itself might not be a huge tourist destination, Sidon offers a wealth of
historical and cultural attractions. Explore the imposing Sidon Sea Castle, a 13th-century Crusader fortress on
a small island, or delve into local traditions at the Soap Museum. Wander through the labyrinthine alleys of the
Old Souks, a
traditional marketplace overflowing with unique souvenirs, clothing, jewelry,
and spices. History buffs can explore
the Khan El Franj, a historic caravanserai that once served as a lodging for merchants
and travelers, or visit the Debbane Palace, a beautiful palace and museum.
