Gelendzhik
Gelendzhik, a resort
town nestled on the Black Sea's Gelendzhik Bay, boasts a rich history dating
back to antiquity. Located between Novorossiysk and Tuapse, Gelendzhik's
population is around 80,204. In ancient
times, the bay was a Greek outpost, and later a significant Genoese colony. The town's name, "Gelendzhik,"
comes from the Turkish word for "little bride," reflecting a period
of slave trade. After the Russian-Circassian War, Gelendzhik was resettled by
Cossacks in 1864.
Today,
Gelendzhik is a popular resort destination known for its beautiful sandy
beaches and waterparks. Nature lovers can explore the nearby dolmens,
waterfalls, and the iconic Sail Rock. For a taste of local
life, visit the Central Market, a vibrant hub for fresh produce, honey, spices, and more.
As night
falls, Gelendzhik transforms into a lively hub.
