Feodosiya, Fyeodosiya, Theodosia
Feodosia, a city on
the Crimean coast of the Black Sea, boasts a rich history dating back to the
6th century BC. Founded by Greek colonists as Theodosia, it was later destroyed
by the Huns. Centuries later, traders
from Genoa established a flourishing trading post called Caffa, dominating
Black Sea trade. After the Russian conquest in 1783, the city was renamed
Feodosia.
Today,
Feodosia offers a blend of historical and cultural attractions. Explore the Aivazovsky
National Art Gallery, showcasing the works of famed artist Ivan Aivazovsky. History buffs can delve into the past at the Genoese
Fortress (Kaffa) or the Feodosia Museum of Antiquities. The Stamboli Palace, once a wealthy
merchant's residence, and the Armenian Church of St. Sergius (Surb-Sarkis) are
architectural gems worth visiting.
For a dose of
culture, visit the Literary-Memorial Museum of Grin, dedicated to writer
Alexander Grin. Pay homage to the great
Russian traveler Afanasiy Nikitin at his monument, or find serenity at the Church of St.
Catherine. Don't miss the
picturesque Fountain Aivazovsky in the city center.
For those
seeking nightlife, Feodosia offers a range of options. Enjoy beachside entertainment at a Beach Club, unwind with
escape games or workshops at ShtrikhKot, or explore bars and clubs at DymNash or the Wine Bar &
Boutique. For a relaxed evening,
savor local wines at the Wine Bar & Boutique or visit Seabass for more bars
