Medgidia
Medgidia, a city in
Constanța County, Romania, boasts a documented history stretching over 5,000
years. Archaeological evidence suggests
the area was inhabited since the Neolithic period. The Romans later administered the region,
building a castrum (fort) in the Carasu Valley that laid the foundation
for the current settlement. In the 15th
century, a Muslim population began to settle in the area.
The modern
city of Medgidia was established by the Ottoman administration in the mid-19th
century. Intended to serve as an
economic hub for central Dobruja and a refuge for Crimean War refugees, the town was named
after Sultan Abdülmecid I.
While Medgidia
may not have a booming nightlife scene, visitors can explore nearby Constanța
for a livelier experience. Zig Zag Pub offers a cozy
atmosphere and entertainment, while El Comandante is a great place to relax
with a coffee.
