Astakos
Astakos, a town on
Greece's western coast, offers a tranquil escape near the Ionian Sea. This
former municipality, now part of Xiromero, boasts an area of 345
square kilometers. Astakos takes its name from the ancient Acarnanian town and was
once called Dragamesti in the Middle Ages. Some believe it might
even be the site of ancient Dulichium.
Astakos is
located close to several other destinations: 16 kilometers southeast of Kalamos
island, 30 kilometers southwest of Agrinio, 35 kilometers northwest of
Missolonghi, and 55 kilometers southeast of Preveza.
While Astakos
may not have the bustling nightlife of larger cities, it offers a charming
atmosphere. Spend your days relaxing on the beautiful long beach of Trani Ammouda with its
crystal-clear waters. For a touch of adventure, explore the stunning nature of Sithonia by renting a
boat with or without a license, or embark on a luxurious cruise to other
beautiful destinations. In the evenings, enjoy cozy cafes and music bars along
the shore.
