Bar
Bar, a coastal town on the Adriatic Sea in southern Montenegro, boasts
a rich history dating back to 800 BC. The old town, Stari Bar, reflects the influence of
various civilizations including the Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, and Ottomans. Although partially destroyed
by conflicts and earthquakes, Stari Bar is being reconstructed and offers a fascinating glimpse into the
past.
Explore the ruins of the old town, including the Main Gate, Saint George’s
Cathedral, Saint Nicholas’ Church, and wander along the cobbled street, one of
the prettiest in Montenegro. Visit King Nikola’s Palace, a historic structure with a
chapel, watchtower, winter garden, and more. Nature lovers can discover one of
the world's oldest olive trees, the Olive Tree of Mirovica, estimated to be over 2,000
years old, or enjoy the serene beauty of Lake Skadar, the largest lake in the
region.
While Bar isn't a major shopping destination, you'll find local
souvenirs and explore the Turkish-influenced streets near the old town. Bar
offers an energetic nightlife scene with a variety of options. Party the night
away at Green Mill with live music, sip colorful cocktails at the beachside Tropski Bar, or unwind at the no-frills
pub Sindikat. For a lively atmosphere, try La Esquina for wine, cocktails, and
rakija, or enjoy Celtic vibes at the Irish Pub Dublin.
