Formia
Formia, also known as ancient Formiae, is a charming town nestled
along the Mediterranean coast in Italy's Lazio region. This town boasts a rich history dating back to the Italic
population of the Aurunci and later Roman influence. During the Republican era, Formia
became a favored summer residence for wealthy Romans who built elaborate villas
along the coast, enjoying the local Caecuban
and Falernian wines. The famous orator Cicero even had a villa in Formia and was tragically assassinated
nearby on the Appian Way.
Explore the rocky beach known as the "Rock of the Falcons" (Roccia dei Falchi), where you can soak up the sun, sea, and stunning views. For a more
traditional beach experience, head to Lilium
Beach where you can relax, swim, and
embrace the Mediterranean vibes. While Formia doesn't have a bustling
nightlife scene, you can enjoy a leisurely evening at local cafes and
restaurants. For a dose of creativity, visit the unique Street Art Place in nearby Gaeta.
