Porto Del Giglio
Giglio Porto, a picturesque village on the eastern coast of Giglio Island, offers a delightful escape.
This village, with a population of around 750 (as of 2021), is a frazione (hamlet) of the comune of Isola del Giglio in the province of Grosseto.
History buffs can explore hidden places, scenic hiking trails, and
old monasteries, including the enchanting Buca delle Fate (Fairy’s Hole). For panoramic vistas, visit the picturesque Promontorio Piombino in Calamoresca. The
main parish church, Santi Lorenzo e Mamiliano, designed by engineer Ernesto
Ganelli and consecrated in 1958, is a
must-see. History is further reflected in the medieval Tower of Saraceno, restructured by Cosimo I de’ Medici in the late 16th century, and
the Tower of Lazzaretto, completed in 1624.
For a touch of shopping therapy, stroll along the harbor front
lined with cute boutiques. Find local ceramics, beach essentials, and more. As
evening falls, unwind at one of the harbor bars with friends, savor gelato, or
take a leisurely walk to soak in the atmosphere. For a livelier scene, head to Giglio Castello, the island’s nightlife hub
with numerous bars and a club open until dawn.
