Garlston, Garston
Garston, located on
the eastern banks of the River Mersey, is a district of Liverpool, England. Originally
part of Lancashire, Garston has a rich history dating back to medieval
times. The first mention of a settlement here can be traced back to 1235 with
the Church
of St. Michael. By the 19th century, Garston had transformed into a
small village. The area's growth accelerated with the construction of docks in
the mid-19th century. The name "Garston" may have
originated from Old English, meaning "grazing settlement," or
from a combination of Viking and Old English influences.
Today, Garston offers a
variety of attractions. Enjoy delicious food, brews, and coffee sourced from
local suppliers at The Elephant Pub & Bakehouse. Relax at The Black Bull, a
comfortable pub known for its real ale and traditional pub fare. While the Winter Gardens, a former
venue for concerts and events, is no longer operational, there are still
entertainment options available. New Mersey Shopping Park features a
variety of shops, including H&M and Clarke's. For a more local experience, head to Woodcutters Social Club, where you
can enjoy entertainment and affordable drinks. If you're looking for a night
out, The
Duck is
a local pub with darts teams and cricket nights.
