Corpach
Corpach, a large
village north of Fort William, sits at the entrance to the Caledonian Canal. Historically, it served as a resting place
for coffins of Clan chieftains on their way to Iona. The village gets its name, "Corpach" meaning
"field of corpses" in Gaelic, from this practice.
Explore the Corpach shipwreck, also known as the Old Boat of Caol, a rusting
reminder of the MV Dayspring fishing vessel.
For a
fascinating look into the earth's treasures, visit the Treasures of the Earth museum,
showcasing minerals, gemstones, and fossils. Stock up on groceries at the Co-op Food
store,
or treat yourself to delicious baked goods from the Nevis Bakery just outside Corpach. While Corpach itself
doesn't have a bustling nightlife scene, Fort William, a short
distance away, offers a variety of options.
The Grog & Gruel is a traditional alehouse with a warm atmosphere, while Sunny's Sports
Bar
caters to sports fans with live music shows. If you're looking for a cozy pub
experience, head to The Volunteer Arms. And for a party vibe on weekends, Roobarb is a popular
choice.
