Maassluis, Massluis
Maassluis is a picturesque town in
South
Holland, covering 10.12 km², of which 1.64 km² is water. Granted city rights in
1811, it was originally founded around 1340 as Maeslandsluys next to a lock in the sea barrier between
the North
Sea and Rotterdam. A notable landmark is
the Garrels
Organ,
inaugurated in 1732. Attractions include the Nationaal Sleepvaart Museum, which showcases
tugboats and maritime history, and Groote Kerk, a church built between 1629 and 1639 known for its impressive Garrels organ. Visitors can
explore the well-preserved 17th-century town structure in Historische kern
Maassluis,
