Mariehamn, the capital
of Åland, is an autonomous territory under Finnish
sovereignty. Founded in 1861, the city is home to roughly 12,000 residents. Its
wide streets lined with linden trees reflect its Russian heritage.

four-masted merchant barque, is a must-visit for history buffs. Åland Maritime
Museum offers a state-of-the-art exploration of Åland’s
maritime heritage. Other interesting spots include Kobba
Klintar, an island with a beacon, Lilla
holmen, a park with bunnies, birds, and a playground, and The
Maritime Quarter, an area dedicated to boat building.

15, a charming old house packed with local crafts. Salt,
a red-brown timber shed, and Little BBQ’s Junk Art
offer a variety of artwork. Jussis Keramik
allows visitors to witness glass-blowing in action. Guldviva
sells brooches, cufflinks and necklaces based on the islands’ flora and fauna.
