Mongstad
Mongstad is a key
industrial area in Vestland county, Norway. Located near the border of Alver and
Austrheim municipalities, with the majority residing in Alver, Mongstad is known for
its oil refinery. Equinor, along with other companies like Shell, operate the Mongstad
refinery, making it a vital hub for oil production. The site boasts an
impressive capacity, including a crude oil terminal that can hold up to 9.5
million barrels and a modern refinery capable of processing 12 million tonnes
of crude oil annually. Interestingly, the port at Mongstad holds the
title of Norway's largest based on tonnage.
While Mongstad itself might
not offer a plethora of tourist attractions, visitors can explore the
surrounding areas. Options include historical sites and cultural experiences in
Bergen, like the Bryggens
Museum or the Hanseatic Museum. Nature lovers can venture up Mount Floyen via the
Funicular railway.
