Kemano Bay
Kemano
Bay, located in British
Columbia, holds a unique distinction. Developed in the 1950s to service the Kemano
Generating Station, a hydroelectric power station built
inside a mountain, the community initially housed workers. This marvel of engineering provided energy
for aluminum smelting. However, with the
station's automation in 2000, Kemano Bay
transitioned from a community to a solely functional industrial site.
Today,
Kemano Bay lacks
shopping facilities, but its historical significance
remains. Visitors can marvel at the colossal Kemano
Generating Station nestled within Mount Dubose. The former townsite, Kemano
Beach, offers a glimpse into the past. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the nearby Owyacumish
River Park, located approximately 15 kilometers
west. While nightlife is absent, Kemano
Bay's historical significance and engineering
marvel make it a fascinating destination.
